“The Remnant” (diptych)
For Celebrate 250 — The Remnant pays tribute to those who have endured—communities displaced, cultures silenced, and ecosystems scarred throughout American history. Inspired by ancestral presence and speculative resilience, the diptych reflects on the aftermath of human impact: environmental degradation, colonial violence, and cultural erasure. It honors not only survival, but memory—the traces left behind by lives interrupted. Positioned within the broader arc of America’s 250 years, the work evokes a question: what fragments of truth remain when the official record fades? - The diptych employs a negative/positive photographic contrast to symbolize visibility and erasure—what history remembers, and what it chooses to forget.
