Image One: INSURRECTION: Prior to January 6, 2021’s attempted Insurrection at our Capitol, I was working on a painting having nothing to do with the election. As the situation developed it morphed into the Capitol. My painting began to reflect the horrors unfolding. When finished, I wiped black paint top to bottom over half of the painting, leaving the viewer to ponder the meaning.
Image Two is not for submission but to view the work process. POST JANUARY 2025 INAUGURATION: In the long days following the election, my mood blackened and my emotional state brought me back to my painting INSURRECTION (see above). What to do? Paint over the whole canvas with black. No. That was too permanent. I took a piece of clear plastic, duplicated the black strokes on the left of the original painting and attached it loosely to the canvas. The fact that the added panel could easily be removed provided the possibility that all was not lost and that a better future was possible.
